#CATHOLinktober 2020

"CATHOLinktober is a collaboration between two artists on Instagram to bring the beauty, goodness and truth of the Catholic faith to the month of October as an antidote to all the ghosts, goblins, monsters and all other unsavory images that converge upon social media around this time of year through events such as #Inktober and other group efforts and events.
So please enjoy and follow along as many different artists from all over the world in many different forms of media bring the light of the Catholic faith into the month of October.
And this is also the very 1st Year of CATHOLinktober."

O Mary conceived without sin
Pray for us who have recourse to thee. Amen

May the rosaries we pray this month be pleasing to you,

and to the heart of your son Jesus. Amen

The red rose represents the "Our Father",
10 white roses for 10 "Hail Mary's"
and the 3 brass orbs are for the "Glory Be."

DAY 14: IHS Monogram
May the most holy, most sacred, most adorable, most mysterious and unutterable Name of God be always praised, blessed, loved, adored and glorified in heaven on earth and under the earth, by all the creatures of God, and by the Sacred Heart of our Lord Jesus Christ in the most Holy Sacrament of the altar. AMEN.

This prayer (The Golden Arrow) is said to have been revealed by Jesus Himself to a Carmelite Nun of Tours, Sister Mary of St. Peter, in 1843 as a reparation for blasphemy.
"This Golden Arrow will wound My Heart delightfully," He said, "and heal the wounds inflicted by blasphemy."

DAY 15: St Teresa of Ávila
"We must strive all the time to advance, and, if we are not advancing, we must cherish serious misgivings, as the devil is undoubtedly anxious to exercise his wiles upon us. For it is unthinkable that a soul which has arrived so far should cease to grow: love is never idle, so failure to advance would be a very bad sign. A soul which has once set out to be the bride of God Himself, and has already had converse with His Majesty and reached the point which has been described, must not lie down and go to sleep again."
~ St Teresa of Ávila, 'Interior Castle', Chapter 4.

DAY 16: St Joseph of Anchieta

St Joseph de Anchieta, S.J., "the Apostle of Brazil" (1534–1597).

He was one of the thirteen Intercessors for World Youth Day, Rio, 2013.
He is also co-patron of Brazil.

DAY 17: Coat of Arms

In Australia it's the Memorial of St Ignatius of Antioch, bishop and martyr (Oct 17). So I took this as inspiration for today's prompt, which I painted last night before hand.

This picture is based on the emblem/symbol of St Ignatius found in "Saints, Signs and Symbols: A Concise Dictionary" by W. Ellwood Post, printed by SPCK.

DAY 21: Monstrance
I took inspiration this picture from the recent YouTube video of Bishop Alphonsus "Phonsie" Cullinan, of the Diocese of Waterford and Lismore, carrying Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament in and around Waterford City, Ireland, to all those who cannot leave their homes at this time. Pray for all those in Ireland.

For more about Bishop Cullinan, he does have a Facebook page, but is more prolific on the Diocese of Waterford and Lismore's YouTube page. He also has an interview with Shalom World (21 August 2019) on their YouTube page as well.

DAY 22: John Paul II
"From the beginning therefore he is called to work. Work is one of the characteristics that distinguish man from the rest of creatures, whose activity for sustaining their lives cannot be called work. Only man is capable of work, and only man works, at the same time by work occupying his existence on earth. Thus work bears a particular mark of man and of humanity, the mark of a person operating within a community of persons. And this mark decides its interior characteristics; in a sense it constitutes its very nature."

~ St John Paul II, Laborem Exercens (On Human Work), 14 September 1981. From the beginning of the encyclical.

DAY 23: Immaculate Heart of Mary

Act of Reparation to the Immaculate Heart of Mary:

O Most Holy Virgin Mother, we listen with grief to the complaints of your Immaculate Heart surrounded with the thorns placed therein at every moment by the blasphemies and ingratitude of ungrateful humanity. We are moved by the ardent desire of loving you as Our Mother and of promoting a true devotion to your Immaculate Heart.

We therefore kneel before you to manifest the sorrow we feel for the grievances that people cause you, and to atone by our prayers and sacrifices for the offenses with which they return return your love. Obtain for them and for us the pardon of so many sins. Hasten the conversion of sinners that they may love Jesus and cease to offend the Lord, already so much offended. Turn your eyes of mercy toward us, that we may love God with all our heart on earth and enjoy Him forever in heaven. Amen.

DAY 25: New Testament Character

St Ananias of Damascus

"Now there was a disciple in Damascus named Ananias. The Lord said to him in a vision, 'Ananias.' He answered, 'Here I am, Lord.' The Lord said to him, 'Get up and go to the street called Straight, and at the house of Judas look for a man of Tarsus named Saul."
~ Acts 9:10–11a

DAY 26: Chastity
"The pure soul is a beautiful rose, and the Three Divine Persons descend from Heaven to inhale its fragrance."

~ St John Marie Vianney

DAY 27: Poverty

"Today we cannot be satisfied simply with being aware of the problems faced by many of our brothers and sisters. It is not enough to offer broad reflections or engage in endless discussion, constantly repeating things everyone knows. We need to 'de-naturalize' extreme poverty, to stop seeing it as a statistic rather than a reality. Why? Because poverty has a face! It has the face of a child; it has the face of a family; it has the face of people, young and old. It has the face of widespread unemployment and lack of opportunity. It has the face of forced migrations, and of empty or destroyed homes."

~ Pope Francis, Meeting of executive board of World Food Programme, 13 June 2016.

DAY 28: Obedience

“The power of obedience! The lake of Gennesareth had denied its fishes to Peter’s nets. A whole night in vain. Then, obedient, he lowered his net again to the water and they caught ‘a huge number of fish.’ Believe me: the miracle is repeated each day.”

~ St. Josemaria Escriva.

DAY 29: Charity
"We must show charity towards the sick, who are in greater need of help. Let us take them some small gift if they are poor, or, at least let us go and wait on them and comfort them."
~ St. Alphonsus Liguori.

DAY 31: Title of the Blessed Virgin Mary:
The theme today was a title of Our Lady.
The patroness of our diocese is Our Lady, Star of the Sea.
This is my own version.
It uses the imagery of waves, darkness and turbulence with starlight, protection and fresh hope.

Our Lady, Star of the Sea, pray for us.
